Addressing Cannabis-related Harm in Queensland

The Mudgeeraba community are being encouraged to contribute to a Parliamentary inquiry into addressing cannabis-related harm in Queensland.
Member for Mudgeeraba and registered nurse, Ros Bates MP, is a Member of the Queensland Parliament’s Social Development Committee, which is conducting an inquiry that will look at the risks associated with cannabis use and strategies to reduce its use.
“Cannabis is the most widely used illicit drug in Australia with one third of Australians aged 14 years and older having used cannabis at some point in their lives,” said Ms Bates.
“There is mounting evidence that cannabis use is associated with serious health risks which are particularly significant for young people. And as a nurse I have witnessed this personally.”
“I urge residents in the Mudgeeraba electorate to respond to the Social Development Committee’s issues paper by Friday 23 April 2010.”
“How can we most effectively address cannabis-related harm in Queensland?” said Ms Bates.
